Far lights
Installation
This is an installation in progress. The narrative lends from the 1920's composer Ivor Gurneys song with the lyrics by his contemporary, Irish poet Joseph Campbell. The song evokes a child's memory of his father and conjures up images of a distant rural past on the Gloucestershire coast.
This installation is a rich visual piece that evokes the metaphorical distance of time. As we survey the expanse of time from the shore to the far light we stand and wonder as if it could be a fire we lit long ago for a dream or desire that we know we may never get to fulfill. There's a strange peace in this moment of knowing a light is out there somewhere but beyond our reach.
